We are a family run business which started in 2009 and we are here to help bring the exciting game of non contact rugby to the younger children who deserve that opportunity to enjoy this fantastic sport. We enjoy and feel strongly about supporting local and national charities and our community. We have affiliations with local rugby clubs and work closely with their minis sections so progression into the rugby club is easy and fun for your child. We now have over 650 children who take part in this great sport on Saturday mornings.
In New Zealand children are encouraged to participate in Club Rugby from as young as 5 compared to 7 in the UK, and the results speak for themselves – we want to change this, and aim to make the sport more accessible. As we all know rugby is traditionally a sport played by toughies old enough to look after themselves, but Rugby is not just for older children and adults, younger children & toddlers can enjoy it too!
We are all especially keen to get more girls into rugby. It's a game of speed and agility and children don't play contact until year 4 at school/Age 9 in clubs so there is nothing to stop girls having a go. We are seeing more girls teams at local clubs which is a huge positive step for Rugby.
You can practice what has been taught in your garden, at the park, at the beach, in fact anywhere there is an open space. It really does involve the whole family as tag-rugby is a safe non-contact form of the game rugby, and anyone can play it at any age, so come on and have a go!
At Little Scrummers we are so pleased to be able to be teaching the children at the younger age, and be able to teach from the grass roots level. There are many other advantages for joining Little Scrummers Rugby: at the weekly 45-60 minute sessions, the children gain confidence, improve their gross motor skills, communication and behaviour at these fun filled sessions lead by fully qualified coaches who play and or coach at their own local rugby clubs who try to instill teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship to our young rugby stars.
Learning sport at an early age is essential and it is proven that there is a positive educational impact as the children learn to work as a team, improve their gross motor skills and it even gets them ready to concentrate and take instructions at school.
The club which has a great community feel is growing month on month.
We even had our Little Scrummers team of six children aged three and four participate in the successful world record attempt at Bishops Stortford RFC for the highest number of people playing Touch rugby in one match, when the Web Ellis Cup arrived at BSRFC for the day on its tour of the UK prior to the start of the world cup.
We hope, that the children learn the basics with us, then go on to their local rugby clubs to develop their skills further. Who knows, one day we may even have contributed to develop some of our next world cup squad.
We also recently sponsored a category at the National Rugby Awards which took place at the Rose Room at Twickenham which was the very first community Rugby Awards evening.
Currently Little Scrummers has 10 locations across Herts, Essex & Cambs and it has just launched its Franchise programme too!
